Foster Care

Recruiting, Licensing, and Supporting Foster Families

We are working to ensure that vulnerable children have access to safe and supportive homes. Today, nearly half a million young people are in foster care in the United States. Many of these children and youth face overwhelming challenges, including food insecurity, academic difficulties, and even trusting authority figures in their lives. There are thousands of kids in foster care in Alabama alone who are at risk of facing these obstacles. Through our foster care program, we – along with our caring and giving parents – are opening our hearts and homes to give these kids a chance to grow and thrive in a loving, caring environment.

Understanding Foster Care

There are many reasons why children may be placed in foster care, but these children are experiencing some sort of neglect, abuse, abandonment or some other circumstance that may place the child in danger. Foster care serves as a temporary solution for ensuring the safety and well-being of children until a more permanent solution has been identified.

Our foster care team works to ensure that kids have:

People We Serve

We want children to thrive in the homes they live in, and sometimes that means living with a foster or adoptive family. We work to keep biological families together, but when that is not possible, or when there is a concern for the safety of a child, we work with caring foster families in our Alabama communities who open their hearts and homes to kids in need.

Our licensed and accredited foster care program works to serve the needs of various individuals:

Quick Facts

Becoming a Foster Parent

Our foster care programs located in Tuscaloosa, Andalusia and Dothan are currently recruiting families who are interested in finding out more about foster care. The first step to joining this team of special people opening their hearts and homes to care for children is by emailing info@EmbraceAlKids.org to get connected to our foster care staff.

You can then sign up for a free Foster Parent Training course that will introduce you to foster parenting and help you decide if it is really right for you. Once you complete the course, other training, applications and evaluations are required to become certified. We recommend that you wait until you’ve attended the course before making the decision on fostering.

You can become a foster parent if you are at least 25 years old and can provide a safe environment for a child or children. Your home will be assessed to make sure it is in compliance with the standards for foster family homes. All members of your household must have medical clearances and all adults in the home must be willing to undergo criminal history background checks.
